"One of the great Talbots, the 1982 exhibits
a dark garnet/purple color as well as spectacular aromatics
consisting of melted licorice, briny olives, black currants,
aged beef, new saddle leather, and cherry liqueur. Powerful
and full-bodied, with spectacular concentration, it is not
dissimilar from its sibling, the prodigious 1982 Gruaud-Larose. |

90 RP 92 - $20 - Dark inky colour. Bouquet of
mineral detracts from the huge flavors of blueberry,
blackberry, cassis and licorice on the smooth tannin
finish that closes with tinny mineral. Parker puts it
imaginatively well in his review - "The
2005 Woodcutters Shiras may be the finest David Powell
has yet produced. This beauty offers dazzling layers of
fruit, texture, richness, and purity. Blackberry jam,
crème de cassis, licorice, white flowers, and black
olive scents jump from the glass of this full-bodied,
silky-textured, gorgeous red. It is meant to be drunk
during its first 2-4 years of life. This knock-out
effort is one of the great values in the marketplace. 92
points, Wine Advocate." |

RM 92 RP96 - $40
- Full bodied, dark, purple, chewy full firm
tannins, ripe berry, black raspberry, mineral, camphor, a
finish of licorice, tar and bark. RP Review -
The
2004 The Struie is 100% Shiraz from 40-60-year old and
120-year old vineyards. Half of the fruit is from the Eden
Valley and half from the Barossa, and the wine spends 18
months in French oak (20% new). An exotic bouquet of
blackberries and other sweet fruits is followed by a
full-bodied, powerful, rich red with great purity as well as
focus, a laser-like precision, huge intensity, and a
blockbuster finish that lasts nearly a minute. It will be
even better with 2-3 more years of bottle age, and should
last for two decades. Wine Advocate #167 (Oct

94 points Robert Parker:
"Even better than the 2001 is the 2002 Merlot, a blend of
99.4% Merlot and .6% Cabernet Franc. The good news is that
there are 10,845 cases of this sex pot of a Merlot. An
exotic perfume of pepper, herbs, black cherries, plums, and
raspberries is accompanied by an exciting texture, a plush,
fleshy palate, and a concentrated, long heady, moderately
tannic finish. This wine should improve over the next 2-3
years and last for 10-14. Very impressive! This is a
top-flight single-vineyard wine aged completely in French
oak, which is in total contrast to the wines made at Silver
Oak." (02/05) |

points - The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, August 2002
"Possibly the wine of the vintage, the terrific opaque
blue-purple colored wine offers up gorgeous aromas of
espresso, melted caramel, black cherry jam, tobacco, and
flowers. It reveals an unctuous texture (amazing for a
1999) as well as a huge palate impact, yet great balance,
purity, and overall harmony. This prodigious effort will
be drinkable young, yet last for 20-25 years. I believe
this is the same wine, with just a slight adjustment in
the blend, that I referred to as the 1999 Merlot in issue
#132." |

of blackberry violet tobacco cedar and chocolatey oak. Sweet
supple and silky with a burnished oak element and broad fine
tannins. Distinctly creamy in the middle even on the soft
side. Not quite as gripping as it appeared to be from barrel
a year ago but aromatic and suave. The cabernet franc was
less potent in 2001 than in 2002 notes Viader who told me
that her wine is always under 14%." |

White Rock Vineyard |
|
Napa Valley |
|
Claret |
|
2002 |
|
A Bordeaux-style blend
of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit
Verdot.
The White Rock 2002 Claret Napa Valley is powerful & complex
with deep black fruit flavors of blackberry, plum and
blueberry, surrounded by White Rock's traditional cedar,
spicy cherry and mineral character. A frame of sweet French
oak and cabernet's thick rich tannins add backbone and lead
the wine to an ageworthy, velvety finish.
Review of previous vintage:
90 points Robert Parker:"White Rock's offerings always
possess a distinctive Bordeaux-like personality. Fashioned
from an organically-run vineyard (no pesticides or
herbicides)...medium to full-bodied and elegant, with
well-integrated tannin and subtle background oak, it
possesses wonderful sweetness, elegance, and restraint,
which are not easy to achieve in California. Drink it over
the next 10-12 years." |

very honeyed. But it doesn't taste of botrytized, dried

harvested late, into December). While creamy and opulent,
it's also refined.' Broadbent:**** '...bouquet blossoming and
