Chateau Grand vin du Marquis de Leoville Las Cases St
Julien Bordeaux 1985 WS98/94/91/90 (4 reviews) RP 93 RM 93 $85 Tapped
this perennial favorite from the cellar, signature wine for son Sean (see my
interview), celebrating his last night at home
before heading off to ISU. Dark colour, intense aroma, full flavor of plum,
cherry, tar, cassis, and anise with a long finish. Classic Las Cases - and
one of my favorite elegant
labels. |
Chateau Leoville
Las Cases St Julien 1993 |
Oct 19, 2002 - Chateau Leoville
Las Cases St Julien 1993 (RM86) ($33 futures release price) An
off-vintage in Bordeaux renders this wine 'affordable' considering the $85
release price for the recent vintage. Look for some bordeaux 'bargains'
right though now due to the recent plentiful harvests and ample supply.
Even in an 'off' year that noteable bordeaux bouquet and perfume flavor
experience come through the dark berry, smoky leather threads. A ten year
old, this wine needs to breath and open up before it is approachable. One
of my favorite
labels
- classic, aristocratic, formal.

July 29, 2002 - 1999 Clos du
Marquis St Julien Bordeaux RM WS 89 $20-23 Berry and cedar with herbal
finish. Medium bodied with soft tannins. Second label of perennial
favorite Leoville Las Cases. Bordeaux are plentiful now and prices have
retreated such they're approaching reasonable due to bountiful crops in
99, 2000 and now 2001. |

1993 Chateau Grand vin de Leoville Las Cases
St Julien Bordeaux |
June 13, 2001 - Chateau Leoville Las Cases
St. Julien 1988
(Label)
Classic perfume and floral scents - polished and balanced - dark cherry and
soft oak. Too fancy a wine for a weeknight but I'm celebrating my appearance
in Spectator on my birthday! |
Dec 23, 2000 - 1993 Leoville Las Cases St Julien Bordeaux
$50+ (RM88) (Label)
Light but polished perfume of berry, plum, mushrooms - just like the 1970
vintage. |
~ July 1995 - Château
Léoville Las Cases St. Julien Bordeaux 1970 WS 87/89 WS May 15,
1993 Review - "Deep garnet; concentrated cedar and tar nose, with hints of
volatile acidity; very concentrated, with chewy cassis and cedar flavors;
short of its peak; promising". This is one of the classiest and one
of my favorites of the 'classic' wine Labels. |
~ June 1988 - Château Léoville Las Cases St. Julien Bordeaux 1982 - WS95 RP100
WS Review from Nov 30, 1998, "A racy, classy, silky wine. Inky-ruby color.
Black cherry, mineral and wet earth aromas. Medium-bodied, with very silky
tannins and a long, superfine finish. Has always been excellent.--1982
Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2000". (JS) This is one
of the classiest and one of my favorites of the 'classic' wine Labels. |
~ 1978 - Château
Léoville Las Cases St. Julien Bordeaux
1964 - WS 88 Feb
15, 1992 WS Review said, " Soft and supple,
not as generous as one might expect from a highly regarded vintage for
Las Cases, but showing nice cigar-box, cedar and truffle overtones to
the modest currant and berry flavors.--Léoville Las Cases vertical.
Drink now. (HS)" This was one of the first serious
bottles of wine I ever had that enlightened or awakened me to something
extraordinary, more than just grapejuice! Drank this with Sonny M. my
earliest 'wine mentor'. This is one of the classiest and one of my
favorites of the 'classic' wine Labels. |
