| June 30 - A special tasting with Gina Gallo at Binny's Glen Ellyn. Gallo of Sonoma Northern Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 - RM 86 WS 79 $75 Not as bad as WS indicates but not quite a collectible - A bit lean and austere berry fruit with leather and sage with a tight closed tannic finish. Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley Barrelli Creek Vineyard 2000 - WS 75 RM 87 $30 More berry with spicy pepper scents ala a Rhone or Syrah or Zinandel. - Gallo of Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County Reserve 2000 - WS 87 RM 87 $13 - Full forward fruit dark cherry and berry with full tannin finish. Decent value for everyday drinking now. | |
| 1999 Gallo of Sonoma Russian River Laguna Ranch Chardonnay (WS 88 RM 91) - Beringer is always a safe bet for Chardonnay. It was smooth balanced, smoky, toasty, a touch of that buttery fruit, unspectacular (when compared to the blockbuster 95). It was outdone by the Gallo - more forward, fruity, citrus and huge delicious spice overtone. Tasted at Parker's in DG with PP, TR, DRH. | |
