Château Mouton Rothschild selected reputed minimalist painter and
sculptor Lee Ufan to design the label of the 2013 vintage release. This
year's label design was selected by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild,
her three children have taken over the running of the estate. The

of the Baroness Philippine Rothschild, who has taken over management of
the property with his two siblings since her passing at 80 years of age
in August of 2014.Korean born Lee Ufan moved to Japan in 1956
where he studied philosophy and art. Ufan's minimalist style is
reflected in the design for the 2013 Mouton Rothschild label which shows
shades of deepening purple that evoke the colors of the wine.
In 1997, Lee was invited to serve as visiting professor at the Ecole
Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He received the UNESCO
Prize at the Shanghai Biennale in 2000; the Ho-Am Prize of the Samsung
Foundation in Korea in 2001; and the 13th Praemium Imperiale for
painting in 2001. In 2010, the Lee Ufan Museum, a building designed by
Tadao Ando and operated by Benesse, opened on the island of Naoshima,
Japan.
In 2014, Lee was the fourth guest artist selected for the contemporary
art program of the Palace of Versailles.

Lee Ufan's works of art can be found in some of the most important
museums in the world including: MoMA, New York, The Guggenheim Museum,
New York, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, The Tate Gallery, London; and
the National Museums of Modern Art in Tokyo Japan.
Ufan divides his time between Kamakura, Japan and Paris, France. |
