"Aging extremely well, this is rich,
sleek and elegant, with a wide range of black cherry,
anise, currant, plum and earth notes that offer depth
and complexity, finishing in a long aftertaste. Tannins
are softening. Drink now through 2007."
94 points Robert Parker: "The 1990 Cabernet
Sauvignon-Special Selection appears to be the best
Caymus has produced since 1986 and 1985. Two thousand,
six-bottle cases will be released in February, 1994. The
wine offers a saturated, dark purple color, and a rich,
spicy, oaky nose backed up by generous quantities of
jammy blackcurrants. Ripe, highly extracted, and
full-bodied, with copious amounts of sweet tannin and
layers of fruit, this is a knock-out,
flamboyantly-styled Cabernet for drinking over the next
15 or more years."

'Ethos' Reserve
- In the world of wine, Ethos represents the
pinnacle tier of Chateau Ste. Michelle. The Ethos
Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah reflect the
winemaker’s vision of old world complexity and elegance with
concentrated Washington fruit. These wines are the ultimate
winemaker expression and made from the finest fruit of the
vintage. Produced in extremely limited quantities
representing no more than 1% of a vintage, our Ethos wines
are crafted to represent the best of a variety from our best
vineyards, including our own vineyards of Cold Creek and
Canoe Ridge Estate. The finest blocks within our top
vineyards are identified based on their quality history,
then farmed within winemaker specifications to insure the
best fruit possible from each site. These small lots of
fruit are harvested and vinified separately. This allows our
winemakers to combine the distinct characteristics from each
vineyard into layered, complex, refined wines that showcase
the power of Washington fruit. |

of Chateau Margaux, Clark-Claudon’s 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon
Estate boasts notes of flowers, graphite, black currants,
raspberries, and plums. This tannic, backward 2001 possesses
a Bordeaux-like structure as well as a deep, rich,

give it 3-4 more years of bottle age and drink it over the
following two decades.

their 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon, from a difficult year, is
outstanding. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by

elegant with a rich, long, medium to full-bodied finish, it

Neither up-front nor
accessible, readers will need a degree of patience, although
it would not be infanticide to drink it now. A serious,
concentrated, opaque purple-colored effort, it boasts a
moderately intense nose of pure cassis, gravel, vanillin,
and blackberries. Full-bodied and impressively built, this
deep, powerful, concentrated Cabernet begs for cellaring. It
is the second impressive effort from this newcomer to the
high end Cabernet Sauvignon sweepstakes. Anticipated

RP 90 - The
1989 Clerc-Milon is a wonderfully hedonistic wine. It is
deep ruby, with an intense, roasted, smoky bouquet of plums
and currants. This full-bodied wine is packed with fruit, is
chewy and opulent as well as very soft and alcoholic. In
spite of the precocious impression, the tannin levels are
high, similar in fact to the 1986. For the first time in my
experience, I actually prefer the Clerc-Milon to
Mouton-Rothschild! A great value. Anticipated maturity:
Now-2010. |
|
1986 |
Robert Parker - The 1986 is among the
greatest Clerc-Milon in my memory, and continues to
represent one of the better values of the 1986 vintage. Dark
ruby/purple with a super bouquet of sweet, toasty new oak,
plums, black currants, licorice, and cedar, on the palate,
the wine is very concentrated, rich and powerful, yet
atypically soft and fleshy for a 1986. While this wine
should age well for another two decades, it can be drunk
much earlier than many of the 1986 Pauillacs. It is a
sleeper of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: Now-2006. Last
tasted, 1/91.

- Robert Parker : 84/100 (Ed 1998) The 1982 Clerc-Milon is a
charming, forward, ripe, fruity wine with an open-knit,
lovely bouquet of ripe berry fruit, and oaky, vanillin
scents. Medium to full bodied, with soft, light tannins,
this wine is ready to drink.
- Wine Spectator: 86/100 (11-1998) Fading a bit, but
delicious. Dark ruby-garnet color. Wild raspberry and
blackberry, with a hint of cedar. Medium-bodied, with
medium, slightly drying tannins and a tobacco and berry
finish. |

Wine
Spectator (15/03/1992) : 96 - Superbly made, giving
the essence of Cabernet Sauvignon. Lots of cassis and earth
aromas and flavors, spiced with excellent new wood; there is
a classic backbone of well-integrated tannins.

tasted, this wine could easily compete with many of the
vintage's classified growths. Dense, opaque purple-coloured,
with créme de cassis, vanilla and cherry notes, medium to full
body, an unctuous texture, low acidity and a more evolved style
than its bigger sibling. Léoville Las Cases, this dense, chewy

92-95 points, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate
December 2005, The consistently fine Right Bank
cuvee is an homage to Bordeaux’s Pomerols and St.-Emilions.
Usually a core blend of 60% Cabernet Franc and 40%
Merlot, there are approximately 625 cases of this
terrific offering. Like all Anderson’s wines, it spends
24-30 months in French oak before being bottled without
filtration. Fashioned from a slightly different blend of
55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc, the 2004 Right Bank’s
deep blue/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of
vanilla bean, espresso roast, chocolate, plums, creme de
cassis, and licorice. Opulent, full-bodied, and
seriously-endowed with no hard edges, this beauty should
drink well for 10-12 years.

Parker 95 Points - The Honour, a dense off-the-chart,
potent Shiraz that spent 18 months in French oak. Readers
looking for restrained Euro-styled wines should steer clear
of this behemoth. It offers blackberry and cassis fruit
intermixed with lead pencil shavings, smoke and high quality
toasty oak. Full-bodied, massively rich, dense and well
balanced for a wine of this weight and power. It should be
at its finest in 2-3 years and last for 10-15. |

1994
- Robert Parker's Wine
Advocate: 91 points
- "A word of admiration and praise is in order for Bruno
Prats. One of St.-Estephe's most forward thinking producers,
Prats is never content with merely making outstanding wine.
Over the last few years he has improved Cos d'Estournel,
already one of the great wines of Bordeaux, by eliminating
any filtration at bottling, and replacing the standard paper
label with one made of plastic so it will not disintegrate
in damp, humid cellars. Additionally, the quality of his
wines in such difficult vintages as 1992 and 1993 has been
remarkable. Readers should also note that a second wine, the
beautifully packaged Les Pagodes de Cos, has been
implemented with the 1994 vintage. It appears to be a fine
second wine. While tasting through Cos d'Estournel's wines,
it was interesting to taste the unfiltered 1994 against the
same cuvee of wine that was put through the normal
filtration. The filtered cuvee was an excellent wine (I
rated it 88), but as Bruno Prats and several other people at
the tasting could easily see, it had less opacity, color,
and aromatic interest, and far less volume and mid-palate.
Most Bordeaux chateaux continue to do too much fining and
filtering, but some of the more seriously run estates are
curtailing the most abusive clarification procedures, and
are finally opening their minds to the negative impact too
much fining and filtration can cause. Sadly, most of my
colleagues have fallen hook, line, and sinker for the
standard response from oenologists and producers on this
issue "fining and filtration have no effect on a wine.""
Feb/97
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
89-92 points - "The 1994 and 1995 vintages of Cos
d'Estournel are slightly different in style, but are
virtually equivalent in qualitative terms. The 1994 is one
of the top wines of the vintage. It reveals a dense, opaque
purple color, and a ripe, sweet nose of black fruits, smoke,
vanillin, and licorice. Extremely well-made, this medium to
full-bodied wine possesses surprising size, yet
accessibility, and admirable purity. It will require 2-4
years of cellaring after its release, and promises to keep
for 20 years." Apr/96
Wine Spectator: 91
points - "Outstanding quality for the vintage. A full-bodied
Bordeaux that offers wonderful aromas of tobacco, berry and
cedar, loads of refined tannins and a long, flavorful
finish. Better from 2000. 22,000 cases made. (JS)" Jan/97 |

succulent, disarmingly thick, opulent effort, the dark
purple Cabernet Sauvignon is a hedonist's dream. It offers a
combination of powerful black cherry and cassis flavors

- RM 90 RP 94 WS 96 - Perhaps this wine was 'closed' at this time. I
found it a bit uninspiring relative to or not up to the hype and
hyperbole of the pundits ratings. Too early? Let's hope so as I have
several more bottles so time will tell. (This seemed to be the case with some
other recent tastings of 1997 Napa Cabs - 97 BV Tapestry below). It was
good never-the-less - balanced, medium bodied, black
cherry, black berry, anise and leather with moderate firm tannin and a hint of oak. Tasted w/ L,
