FBI Probes Yankees' Site Hackers

TROY, N.Y. (AP) - The FBI (news - web sites) has seized three computers belonging to a college student after an obscene photograph and message appeared on the New York Yankees' Web site the night they won the World Series.

Andres Salomon of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute said the FBI agents allowed him to save any schoolwork from his two laptops and one desktop computer on Oct. 28.

The FBI wants to find out who hacked into the Yankees.com Web site on Oct. 26 and posted an obscene photograph and vulgar message.

Altering or defacing a Web site is a federal crime punishable by a fine or up to five years in prison.

Salomon, a computer major, admits going to the Web site that night. But he said he went there only after he heard - while online - the site had been hacked.

He told the Times Union of Albany that he was merely curious and wanted to see how someone could have infiltrated the site. He likened it to somebody peering in the window of a house where there has been a burglary.
