Brett Anderson saved the streak, Matt Yellin scored three touchdowns and coach Joe Bunge tied Don Harshbarger for the most wins in school history in Naperville Central's 34-0 victory Friday night at Wheaton North.

The Redhawks win against the Falcons (1-5, 0-4) was Bunge's 127th at Central, putting him atop the school's victory list with Harshbarger, who was 127-42-15 from 1929 to 1951. Bunge is 127-40 in his 15th season with the Redhawks and has a 190-54 career record in 22 seasons.

With a win against Glenbard North next week, Bunge would become the school's all-time winningest football coach and Central would earn its 500th victory in school history.

On the field, the Redhawks' shutout streak continued through its sixth game but not without a close call.

With four seconds left before halftime, Wheaton North kicker Mark Slocum lined up for a 41-yard field goal attempt. Brian Uhlir broke through and blocked the kick, but Falcons holder and quarterback Chris Terrazas picked up the loose ball and found Slocum at the 10-yard line. Slocum had two Redhawks between him and the end zone. The Falcons kicker cut back toward the middle of the field, but Anderson grabbed his legs and stopped him at the 5-yard line.

"I knew I just had to stay deep and wait for the ball to come because it was going to," Anderson said. "I saw it coming one way, and I went over there. I overpursued at first, then I came back and kept my legs warm and got him.

"We definitely didn't want him to score a point. We were very determined. I looked up and I thought maybe he was on the goal line. For a second, my heart had stopped."

The Redhawks (6-0, 4-0) have not given up a point in 288 minutes and 56 seconds and are two shutouts away from tying their school record of eight in a season, set in 1945 by Naperville High School.

A 34-yard pass to Kevin Noel set up a Yellin 1-yard touchdown run. On Central's next possession, the Redhawks fullback ran 55 yards for another score. Kyle Griffith, who led Central with 102 yards on 15 carries, scored on a 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Kevin Noel, who had three catches for 109 yards, made a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch, then outran his defender for a 61-yard score in the third. In the fourth, Yellin punctuated his night by reaching just inside the right pylon on an 11-yard pass.

"Our whole line played really well," Yellin said. "They stepped it up, and they really came out hard. (Wheaton North) has a really tough defense. Everybody played really well.

Phil Horvath completed six passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns, and Dan Prazak caught a 51-yard toss. Andy Cvengros led the Falcons with 94 yards on 29 carries, and Terrazas threw for 102 yards on nine completions.
