Best of the best
Naperville N. at Naperville C.

November 10, 2000

Kickoff: 1 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, Hillside Avenue.

Bob Sakamoto's pick: Naperville Central.

What to watch: How much more effective will Naperville North (10-1) be offensively with the return of its top player, RB Bill Jurjovec? In addition, running mate Kevin Hahn provides another threat in the Huskies' double-wing formation. QB Jay McCareins will need a big game both running and throwing for his team to upset No. 1-seeded Naperville Central (11-0) in this Class 6A quarterfinal. Central, which handled North 31-14 four weeks ago, has been hurt by season-ending injuries to QB Owen Daniels and LBs Ryan Amberson and Scott Summers. Junior Phil Horvath has taken over at QB while junior Mike Lucas has filled in for Amberson and the tandem of juniors Matt Benson and Ryan Senica rotate at Summers' spot. Expect a big game defensively from Redhawks such as DTs Joe Alvarez, Chris Hill, Ken Kottke along with LBs Drew Kocsis and Pat Spaeth. Another key for Central will be if Horvath can make use of game-breakers Kevin Noel and Tyke Spencer.
