June 24,
2007 -
Atmosphere is warm casual and comfortable - the room is
warm with stylish heavy palette oil paintings artwork, cushy leather seats,
wood floors, brick walls, a wall of windows on the front and high ceilings.
There are two rooms with the entrance into the bar with limited dining
seating with the main dining room adjacent. Conveniently off the beaten
track in this up and coming neighborhood on the west edge of Bucktown -
accessible from the Blue Line. Easy access to street parking.
Atmosphere - 4.5/5
Food - Menu (classic French) offered a broad selection
with several seafood dishes, beef, lamb, chicken, and duck. Portions were
adequate. The selections were stylish presentations. The sauces were
modestly inspiring. The most popular was the sea bass of the duck, beef,
lamb. The roasted beet salad was short on beets and the spinach salad was
overpowered by the liver accompaniment that was too strong. Deserts were
tasty, again short on the modest sauces.
Food - 3.25/5
Wine - Winelist, is predominantly French with care to
offer more affordable selections from the Bourgogne and Rhone
predominating with few obscure names from Bordeaux and devoid of Burgundy.
There were a handful of modest American features. The $20 corkage fee is
steep but wine-friendly none-the-less. See wine journal
review.
Wine - 3.5/5
Service was adequate, our server was a bit awkward with
our socializing crew but delivery was deliberate and direct.
